Roy Salomon is recognized as Canada's "Mr. Maccabi" for 40 years of leadership of Maccabi Canada and the World Maccabiah Games in Israel.
His numerous achievements include co-chair of the North American Confederation of Maccabi World Union 1991-2001, and president of Maccabi Canada 1992-200ß.
In 1982, Roy led the Canadian delegation to the first North America JCC Maccabiah Youth Games, a continental sportsfest for 16-and-under Junior athletes. One year later, he proposed the inclusion of Junior athletes in the quadrennial World Maccabiah Games in Israel, and at the 12th Maccabiah in 1985 hundreds of 16-under youngsters competed.
Roy's introduction to the Maccabiah Games came as a member of the Canadian basketball team that competed at the 1969 8th Maccabiah. He was Honorary President of the 19th Maccabiah Games in 2013.
For his near 60 years of participation and volunteer service with the Montreal Y-JCC, Roy was recipient of its Norah and Joe Rubin Award in 1990.
The Canadian real estate executive is an inducted member of the Montreal Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, which he founded in 1979, was recipient of MWU's prestigious Yakir Maccabi Award in 2001, awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. That same year, Roy was inducted as a Builder into the Israel Softball Hall of Fame.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually, honoring those individuals who have made significant contributions to the State of Israel and society through sports.
