Over his storied 50-year career, WhiteyBimstein was reputed as a great trainer and “cutman” for 25 World boxing champions, among them: Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, Jake LaMotta, Barney Ross, Gene Tunney, Max Baer, James J. Braddock, Primo Carnera, Rocky Graziano, Mickey Walker, Jackie “Kid” Berg, Benny Leonard, Louis “Kid” Kaplan, Charley Phil Rosenberg, Ingemar Johansson and Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom. More than a dozen of his fighters
are in Boxing’s Hall of Fame.
Bimstein teamed with IJSHOF honoree Ray Arcel from 1925 to 1934, forming the most successful training combo in boxing history. After World War II Bimstein enjoyed a successful partnership with trainer Freddie Brown.
Whitey was known for his ability to motivate fighters both psychologically and physically, and was universally regarded
as a cornerman whose expertise with swabs, antiseptics and astringents between rounds was unsurpassed.
Bimstein was inducted into the International Boxing
Hall of Fame in 2006.
