San Francisco's Monte Attell ("The Nob Hill Terror") captured the vacant World Bantamweight championship on June 19, 1909, with an 18-round knockout of ex-titleholder Frankie Neil. Attell, who became a pro at the age of 17, battled more than seven years in the ring before getting a shot at the World title.

Eight months later, on February 22, 1910, he lost the crown on a 42nd round KO by Frankie Conley.

During the period Monte held the Bantamweight crown, his brother, Abe Attell, was World Featherweight champion (1906-1912). The brothers are the only known siblings to hold simultaneous World titles.

Monte Attell's professional record: 106 bouts, 46 wins (18 KOs/1 by foul), 21 draws, 38 losses (9 by KO), 1 no contest.)
