Jeff Bukantz was an 8-time US National Champion in Team Foil and represented the United States at the Pan American Games, World University Games. World Championships and 4 Maccabiot, where he won 11 medals, including individual gold in both foil and epee.
After his competitive career was over, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Daniel, an IJSHOF inductee, and became a trusted official at two Olympics, 7 World Championships, and 33 NCAA Championships.
Bukantz was USA Fencing Team Captain/Head Coach for 2 Olympics, 8 World Championships, 2 Pan American Games. and the 2005 World University Games. This year, he is being honored by IJSHOF with a Lifetime Achievement Award after being inducted into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame (2025), the US National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2024), the New Jersey Jewish Sports HOF (2022), the Maccabi USA Legends of the Maccabiah (2018) and the New Jersey Metrowest JCC Jewish Sports HOF(2004).
With the International Fencing Federation (FIE), Bukantz was a 2-time elected member of the FIE Rules Commission from 2000-2008 and was a licensed International Referee from 1983-2017.
For Maccabi USA he was General Chair for 2013 & 2017 United States Teams to the 19th & 20th World Maccabiah Games that brought over 1100 Jewish Athletes to Israel in both years.
He served as President 2017-2025. He is a 2022 Maccabi World Union Yakir Award recipient.
Bukantz also was 2024 Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS) lead and expert commentator for Paris 2024, as well as NBC Olympic expert analyst for London 2012 and Rio 2016, and authored the book “Closing the Distance".
