Inducted: 2024
Country: USA
Born: July 8, 1969

DESCRIPTION:

One of the outstanding pioneering players of women’s ice hockey, Ellen Weinberg-Hughes was an all-star at the highest levels of her sport.

Today, women's hockey is an Olympic sport with professional leagues, but when Weinberg-Hughes played at the second Women's World Championship in Finland in 1992 the sport was new to the world stage.

She helped to lead the U.S. national team to a silver medal and was named to the Women's World Championship's first-ever all-star team. Before the national team was established, the top level of the sport in the U.S. was college competition, and Weinberg-Hughes starred on defense on the legendary University of New Hampshire championship hockey teams (1987, 1990, 1991), becoming team captain and a college all-star. She also starred in lacrosse and soccer.

In 2023, Weinberg-Hughes was named player development consultant for the U.S. women's national team. "I'm really trying to help each player become the best versions of themselves," she said.
