Eliot Teltscher ranked among the World’s Top 10 tennis players three times between 1980-84, and the World’s Top 15 each of those years. His highest ATP ranking was No. 6 in 1982.

The right-hander was ranked among the USAs’ Top Ten Singles players for seven of eight years between 1980 and 1988.

As a professional, Teltscher won ten Grand Prix Singles championships, including the San Francisco, Atlanta, Johannesburg and Japan Open titles. His professional career earnings were $1,653,997.

Teltscher’s career Singles victories numbered 399, and Doubles wins were 161.

In Doubles, he was U.S. No. 6 in 1979 (with Francisco Gonzalez); No. 4 in 1980 (with Terry Moor); and No. 8 in 1981 (Moor). In 1983, he won the French Open Mixed Doubles with Barbara Jordan.

Teltscher was a UCLA All-American in 1977 and 1978. When he retired from competition, he became a personal coach to Pete Sampras, Jeff Tarango and Justin Gimelstob, among others. And, he was a United States National Coach from 1998 to 2001,

E.T.’s mother was born in pre-State of Israel Palestine, and his father is a Holocaust survivor who joined the British military after emigrating to the Holy Land.
