Al McCoy was World Middleweight Champion from 1914 to 1917. He won his title at the age of 18 and was the first southpaw (lefthander) ever to win a World championship.
McCoy flattened champion George Chip in the first round of their title bout on April 7, 1914, to win the Middleweight crown. In an era when a champion could only lose his title by a knockout, McCoy battled through 46 fights. He lost the Middleweight title on November 14, 1917, on a sixth-round KO by Mike O’Dowd.
Al McCoy’s professional record: 157 bouts—won 99 (26 KOs), lost 40, no-decisions 18.
