Abe ‘Newsboy’ Brown held the World Flyweight championship for eight months in 1928.

The Boxing Record lists him the #7 ranked flyweight of all-time. He was named the second-best bantamweight boxer in the world in The Ring magazine's Annual Ratings for 1931, and the fourth best in January 1932 by the National Boxing Association.

During a tumultuous time regarding who held the World Flyweight title following the retirement of Fly champion Fidel LaBarba, Brown, who had defeated LaBarba two years earlier, decisioned Johnny McCoy on January 3, 1928 to claim the title (in California). (At the same time Corporal Izzy Schwartz—an IJSHOF honoree—claimed the title in New York).

Brown's professional record: 91 bouts, won 68 (12 by KO),lost 13, drew 10.
