Carolina’s Jewish Duo Looks Ahead to 2026 Season
In Carolina’s 33-30 Hall of Fame Game win over Arizona, A.J. Dillon supplied the clearest on-field highlight, rushing three times for 18 yards and a collecting 1-yard touchdown, while adding an 18-yard reception that set up his score. His 36 total yards and touchdown made a strong early case in the Panthers’ crowded running-back competition. Although Jake Curhan, an offensive tackle, was not involved in Carolina’s line in the preseason opener, he brings prior NFL starting experience and was listed on the club’s Hall of Fame Game depth chart.
A.J. Dillon’s touchdown marks a strong start for Dillon at his third NFL franchise. In Green Bay, Dillon developed into a reliable complement in the backfield, posting career-best rushing totals of 803 yards in 2021 and seven touchdowns in 2022 while also contributing as a receiver. Across 67 NFL games through the 2025 season, he had recorded 2,488 rushing yards, 16 rushing touchdowns, 89 receptions, and 784 receiving yards. Working behind Saquon Barkley and Will Shipley in Philadelphia last season, Dillon will look to have a more prominent role in Carolina’s backfield this season.
Both players have Jewish connections. Dillon has spoken publicly about his Jewish identity and upbringing on his mother’s side, including attending Hebrew school and observing holidays. He has described being proud to represent his family’s Jewish heritage as a Jew of color. Curhan, who grew up in Larkspur, California, is also Jewish. He attended Jewish summer camp growing up, and has referred to himself as the “Bear Jew,” a nod to his time at UC Berkeley.
